THE HISTORY OF
MARINA, CALIFORNIA
In 1915, William Locke-Paddon purchased 1,500 acres of land with the intent of founding Marina. The town grew slowly, with only about 70 families living within city limits. But with the founding of Fort Ord in 1917, the town grew to a population of 6,000 by 1940.
Marina was incorporated in 1975 and today, over 22,000 Marina residents are proud of the area’s history and hopeful in its future. In 2012, America’s Promise Alliance honored the city as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People.
