THE HISTORY OF

PACIFIC GROVE, CALIFORNIA

 

The first road to Pacific Grove was laid out in 1874. The following year, a seaside resort and campground were established. As visitors explored and grew to love the area, the town was incorporated in 1889.

Pacific Grove attracted artists and writers because of its beautiful scenery and relaxing atmosphere. Today, the town is home to the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the country and half a dozen structures recognized by the National Historic Register.
